What Women Will Learn During Firearm Training

Our women’s firearm training focuses on practical skills that help participants become safer, more confident, and more responsible around handguns. Instruction is adjusted to each woman’s experience, comfort level, and personal goals.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Apply the four fundamental firearm safety rules
  • Safely load, unload, and verify that a handgun is clear
  • Build a stable shooting stance and proper two-handed grip
  • Improve trigger control, sight alignment, and shooting accuracy
  • Recognize common firearm malfunctions and respond safely
  • Follow proper range commands, procedures, and etiquette
  • Select a firearm that fits their hands, comfort level, and intended purpose
  • Store firearms responsibly and help prevent unauthorized access
  • Make informed decisions about personal protection and responsible firearm ownership
  • Identify appropriate next steps for continued training and skill development

By the end of training, you’ll have greater confidence handling a handgun safely and a clear path for continuing to build your shooting skills.

About our B.A.B.E. (Be Aware, Be Elegant) Women-Only Group Training

B.A.B.E. — Be Aware, Be Elegant — is a welcoming, female-led, two-hour range experience where women come together to learn, practice and build confidence in a supportive environment. No previous firearm experience or personal firearm is required.

The program welcomes first-time and experienced women shooters. Beginners receive patient, step-by-step instruction in firearm safety, handling and shooting fundamentals, while experienced participants can continue improving their accuracy, confidence and range skills.

B.A.B.E. is about more than shooting. Participants train alongside other women, encourage one another and build meaningful connections without feeling judged or pressured. Each session also features a fun, optional dress-up theme. Previous themes have included “Boots on the Ground,” but dressing for the theme is never required.

When We Meet

B.A.B.E. meets on the last Sunday of every month for a two-hour supervised range session at the NRA Range in Fairfax, Virginia.

After training, participants may join the group for an optional meal and additional fellowship. Food is not included in the registration fee, and everyone is responsible for purchasing her own meal.

Women who prefer individual preparation can also schedule private firearm instruction.

Meet Lead Women’s Firearm Instructor Sheena Parker

Sheena Parker is a certified firearms instructor, Co-Owner and Chief Operating Officer of Trouble Defense LLC, and the lead instructor for our women’s firearm training programs.

Known for her patient, encouraging teaching style, Sheena specializes in helping women become comfortable and confident around firearms without pressure or intimidation. She works with complete beginners as well as experienced shooters who want to strengthen their safety habits and shooting skills.

Her instructional experience includes Virginia Concealed Handgun Permit training, Maryland HQL training, Maryland Wear & Carry training, Washington, DC Concealed Carry training, firearm safety, shooting fundamentals, and responsible firearm ownership.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) – Women’s Firearm Training

No. Our women’s firearm training welcomes complete beginners as well as women with previous shooting experience. New shooters receive patient, step-by-step instruction, while experienced shooters can continue improving their accuracy, confidence, and firearm-handling skills.

No. You do not need to own a firearm to attend. The equipment and range-related items needed for the session are provided as part of your registration. You are also welcome to bring your own firearm if it is suitable for the training and approved by the instructor.

The $150 fee covers the two-hour range experience and the items needed to participate, including professional instruction, range access, firearm use, ammunition, targets, and eye and ear protection. Food after the range session is not included.

B.A.B.E. meets on the last Sunday of every month for a two-hour group range session. Upcoming dates and monthly themes are posted on our website and booking page.

B.A.B.E. group sessions are held exclusively at the NRA Range in Fairfax, Virginia.

Private one-on-one and private women’s group training may also be scheduled at Sharpshooters Indoor Range in Lorton, Virginia, depending on availability.

Participants learn and practice essential firearm safety, proper grip, stance, loading and unloading, sight alignment, trigger control, range etiquette, and supervised live-fire shooting. Instruction is adjusted to each participant’s experience level.

No. B.A.B.E. is also about collaboration, confidence, community, and women’s empowerment. The group gives women a supportive space to learn together, encourage one another, and build lasting connections.

No. Each month includes a fun optional theme, such as our previous “Boots on the Ground” theme. Dressing for the theme is encouraged, but it is never required to attend or participate.

No. After the range session, participants are invited to join the group for a meal and additional fellowship. Going to eat is completely optional, and each participant is responsible for purchasing her own food.

Yes. Trouble Defense offers private one-on-one instruction and private group experiences for friends, families, organizations, celebrations, and women who prefer a more personalized environment. Contact us to discuss your group size, goals, and preferred training date.
