Virginia Concealed Handgun Permit Training

Virginia residents applying for a Concealed Handgun Permit must provide acceptable proof that they demonstrated competence with a handgun through qualifying in-person instruction or another method recognized under Virginia law.

The Virginia portion of this program provides:

• In-person firearm safety instruction
• Safe handgun handling education
• Virginia concealed-carry laws
• Transportation and storage information
• Use-of-force considerations
• Information about applying through the appropriate Virginia Circuit Court
• A certificate documenting successful course completion

One Coordinated Course for Three Separate Permit Applications

The DC, Maryland, and Virginia region has three different concealed-carry systems. A permit issued by one jurisdiction does not automatically authorize you to carry in all three.

Our DMV Concealed Carry Training Package helps you complete the applicable training through one coordinated program while learning how the laws change when traveling between Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC.

After completing the course, students must submit separate applications to the appropriate government agencies. Trouble Defense LLC provides the required training documentation and explains the next steps, but the government agencies make all final licensing decisions.

Washington DC

What Is Included in the DMV Concealed Carry Course?

📌 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) – DMV CCW

No. Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia operate separate concealed-carry permit systems. This coordinated course helps you complete the applicable training requirements, but you must submit a separate application to each jurisdiction. Each government agency makes its own approval decision.

The DMV package saves you from repeating similar firearm-safety and legal instruction in multiple courses. You receive coordinated classroom and range training while learning how the laws and carry restrictions change when traveling between Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC.

Yes. Beginners are welcome, and no previous firearm experience is required. Our instructors explain firearm safety, handgun operation, legal responsibilities, and range procedures step by step in a patient and professional environment.

The program includes 16 hours of classroom instruction and a required two-hour live-fire range session. These hours help cover the more extensive initial training requirements established by Washington, DC and Maryland. DC officially requires 16 hours of classroom instruction plus two hours of range training, while Maryland requires at least 16 hours for an initial Wear and Carry applicant.

No. You do not need a firearm for the classroom portion. A suitable handgun is required for the live-fire qualification. Students who do not own a firearm should contact Trouble Defense LLC before class to discuss available range and firearm options.

Students should bring or purchase at least 50 rounds of factory-manufactured ammunition for the range session. Additional ammunition may be recommended when a student wants extra practice or needs additional coaching before completing the qualification.

The $400 package includes coordinated classroom instruction, firearm-safety education, legal instruction, range training, qualification guidance, application guidance, and applicable course-completion documents. Government application fees, fingerprinting, range fees, ammunition, photographs, and other agency charges are separate unless your registration specifically states otherwise.

No. Washington, DC does not recognize a Virginia or Maryland concealed-carry permit as authorization to carry in the District. You must obtain a separate DC Concealed Carry License and comply with DC firearm-registration and licensing requirements.

No. The Maryland Handgun Qualification License generally concerns purchasing, renting, or receiving a regulated handgun. The Maryland Wear and Carry Permit concerns legally carrying a handgun. They are separate licenses with different purposes and requirements.

Students who successfully complete the applicable classroom and range requirements receive their training and qualification documents. You must then submit separate applications to Washington, DC, Maryland, and the appropriate Virginia Circuit Court. Trouble Defense LLC explains the next steps, but the government agencies conduct the background reviews and make all final permit decisions. Virginia law requires applicants to provide acceptable proof that they demonstrated handgun competence through qualifying in-person instruction or another approved method.
