- Be at least 21 years old.
- Complete the required 16 hours of classroom instruction and 2 hours of live-fire range training with an MPD-certified instructor.

- Pass the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) background investigation.
- Submit a completed application along with fingerprints, a passport-style photograph, valid identification, proof of required training, and any additional documentation requested by the MPD.
