Why Trouble Defense

Our mission: help people make better-informed decisions about their safety.

Taking your first class can feel like a big step. You may have questions about firearm ownership, feel uncomfortable at a range, or simply want someone to explain the basics without making you feel behind. That is where our work begins.

Since 2012, Trouble Defense has grown from a commitment to responsible firearm education into a company serving individuals, families, businesses and community organizations. Our programs now include concealed carry education, private instruction, women-focused training, adaptive education and workplace safety.

What has not changed is our approach: listen first, explain clearly and take safety seriously. We want your training to be useful beyond the classroom—not just something you complete to collect a certificate.

Dee and Sheena Parker lead Trouble Defense with an emphasis on accountability, approachable instruction and respect for the person learning.

Founder · CEO · Firearms instructor

Dee Parker

Dee is an eight-year U.S. Army veteran whose service included logistics, equipment accountability and Unit Armorer responsibilities. He also supported the Army’s Best Warrior Competition as an instructor and evaluator.

After military service, he spent more than 15 years supporting federal operations at the Pentagon Motor Pool. Today, he brings that background in leadership, preparation and accountability to Trouble Defense’s training programs and instructional standards.

His focus is helping students understand the responsibility that comes with firearm ownership—and helping organizations take a more thoughtful approach to safety.

Sheena Parker

Sheena helps make firearm education feel approachable, especially for women and first-time students. Her instruction emphasizes patience, communication and confidence built through understanding—not pressure.

As the founder of Trouble BABES, she leads women-focused training while also working with private students, families and participants who benefit from a more individualized learning experience.

Always follow the location in your registration confirmation. Classroom instruction and range qualification may use different addresses. Trouble Defense is a training company that uses designated range facilities—not a drop-in public shooting range.

We welcome students from Fairfax, Alexandria, Arlington, Springfield, Lorton, Woodbridge, Manassas, Tysons and surrounding Northern Virginia communities, as well as Maryland and Washington, DC. Organizations can inquire about on-site safety training throughout the region.

Can I train with you if I have never handled a firearm?

Yes. We offer beginner-friendly classes and private instruction. Start with first-time gun owner training or contact us to discuss your goals. Some specialized courses have prerequisites, so review the course details before registering.

Do I need to own a firearm before signing up?

Not for many of our beginner and private programs. Equipment and rental options depend on the class and location. Check the selected package or contact us before booking so we can confirm what is included and what you need to bring.

Can I request a female instructor or private lesson?

Yes. We offer women-focused instruction and private lessons. Include your instructor preference when booking or contacting us. Availability depends on the program and requested date.

Which location should I go to for my class?

Use the address in your registration confirmation. We rotate between Fairfax and Lorton locations, and classroom instruction and live-fire training may be held at different facilities. Do not travel to the office or a range without a confirmed appointment.

Can a blind or low-vision student take training?

Our adaptive training program includes blind and low-vision students. Contact us before registering so we can discuss your experience, learning needs, support preferences and an appropriate training format.

Can a business or government organization hire your team?

Yes. Ask about organizational safety training, including de-escalation, workplace violence prevention, active shooter preparedness and facility security assessments. Include your audience, location, group size and preferred dates.

Does completing a concealed carry class guarantee a permit?

No. Training is one part of the process. The relevant issuing authority determines eligibility and approval. Review current requirements and the details of the specific concealed carry program before enrolling.
