What does this red dot pistol class cover?
The course focuses on three areas: compatible mounting and equipment orientation, safe use with instructor-supervised practice, and optic care. It is an introductory, optic-focused course rather than an advanced tactical program.
Will I learn about putting a red dot on my pistol?
Yes. Mounting orientation is part of the course. Your pistol, optic and required hardware must be reviewed in advance, and any hands-on mounting must be appropriate for that equipment and consistent with manufacturer requirements. Not every combination can be accommodated during class. Machining, slide modification and custom gunsmithing are not included.
Do I have to own a red dot before taking the class?
No. Trouble Defense can provide a red dot for an additional cost, subject to availability and compatibility. Call us before booking so we can confirm equipment options, the arrangement and the current fee. An optic is not included in the course tuition.
How much is the red dot or equipment fee?
Equipment is quoted separately. Call (703) 835-0692 and let us know what you already own and what you need. We will confirm availability and the applicable fee before you book; the illustrative photos do not guarantee a particular model.
How much does the class cost, and how long is it?
Small-group course tuition is $199 per student, with approximately three hours planned for the session. Equipment suitability, session details and any additional costs are confirmed before booking. Private instruction is quoted separately.
Are range fees, ammunition and mounting hardware included?
No. Range or lane fees, ammunition, an optic, firearm rental, mounting plates or other hardware, and separate professional services are additional. We will review what applies to your session before booking. Call for the equipment fee instead of assuming it is included.
Can I take this class if I have never used a handgun?
Contact us first. The course focuses on an optic-equipped pistol and does not replace foundational firearm-safety instruction. We may recommend first-time gun owner training or a private lesson before this class.
Can I bring an optic that is already installed?
Yes—let us know your pistol and optic models when you inquire. An installed optic still needs to be suitable for the planned session. Contact us about any equipment concerns before class rather than assuming they can be repaired at the range.
What should I bring, and how much ammunition will I need?
Your session confirmation will list the approved equipment, identification, eye and ear protection, and ammunition quantity. Bring applicable manufacturer documentation for your equipment. Do not purchase extra items solely for the course until the requirements have been confirmed.
Where is the training held?
We rotate locations in Fairfax and Lorton, Virginia, including the NRA Range and Sharpshooters Indoor Range. Your booking confirmation identifies the classroom and range location for your session. All training is by appointment; no walk-ins.
Can I request private red dot instruction?
Contact us to discuss a private session, your experience and your equipment. Availability and private-session pricing are quoted separately from small-group tuition. You can also review our private firearm training options.
Does this replace a concealed carry course?
No. This is an optic-focused skills course, not a concealed carry certification package. Contact Trouble Defense to discuss the separate training appropriate for your permit goals.
Will we discuss cleaning and maintaining the optic?
Yes. Optic care is one of the course’s main areas of focus, including manufacturer-recommended maintenance and recognizing when professional service is needed. For broader firearm maintenance education, explore our gun cleaning classes.
How do I book, and what happens if I need to reschedule?
Request availability or call (703) 835-0692. We will confirm the date, location, equipment requirements, total charges and applicable cancellation or rescheduling terms before payment. An inquiry does not reserve a place.
